The Assignment

Carolina Bomanite needed a complete visual package showcasing its decorative concrete work at Old Barn Winery for submission to the American Society of Concrete Contractors’ Decorative Concrete Council International Project Awards.

The goal was to document the project with the same attention to detail that went into the installation itself.

Photography needed to clearly show the overall design while highlighting the textures, patterns, transitions and craftsmanship within the decorative concrete. The accompanying promotional video needed to take that documentation a step further, bringing the project to life through movement and giving judges a better sense of how the concrete contributes to the character of the finished space.

The Approach

The project was captured from the ground and the air to tell the story at multiple scales.

Ground-level architectural photography focused on carefully composed views of the finished space while detail images brought attention directly to the decorative concrete. Angles were selected to emphasize texture, pattern, edges and transitions while still showing how the installation relates to the surrounding architecture and landscape.

Aerial photography provided the larger perspective. From above, the imagery could show the layout of the project and the relationship between individual concrete elements in a way that wasn’t possible from ground level.

For the promotional video, I combined cinematic ground coverage with aerial movement to create a concise visual tour of the project. Rather than simply documenting the site, the camera movement, compositions and edit were designed to continually bring attention back to Carolina Bomanite’s work.

Because the final photography and video were being created for an industry awards submission, every shot had a purpose: clearly communicate the design, craftsmanship and finished quality of the project.

The Result

The final deliverables gave Carolina Bomanite a cohesive collection of architectural photography, aerial imagery and promotional video built specifically to showcase the Old Barn Winery project.

Together, the ground and aerial perspectives document both the details of the decorative concrete and its role within the larger property, while the video turns those individual elements into a complete visual story.

The result was more than project documentation. It was an awards-focused presentation of the craftsmanship, design and execution behind the finished work, while also creating a library of visual assets Carolina Bomanite could continue using beyond the original submission.
