The Assignment

Following renovations throughout Spectrum Center, the Charlotte Hornets needed fresh visuals that could showcase the updated spaces and give viewers a sense of moving through the arena. I was brought onto the production to provide both traditional cinematic drone footage and immersive FPV capture, working alongside Hornets media staff, agency Beldenave, and Uppercut Media.

The goal was to create high-quality, energetic footage that could move seamlessly between spaces and provide perspectives that would be difficult to achieve with traditional camera systems.

The Approach

Over a half-day production, I flew throughout four levels of Spectrum Center, combining high-resolution 6K aerial capture with agile 4K FPV cinematography. FPV allowed us to move naturally through concourses, renovated spaces, seating areas, and transitions between environments, creating continuous movement that helps viewers experience the arena rather than simply see it.

Throughout the shoot, Hornets and agency staff had access to a live feed from the aircraft, allowing the creative team to review shots in real time, provide direction, and make adjustments on the spot. This collaborative workflow helped us quickly refine flight paths and compositions while ensuring the footage aligned with the larger production.

03

The Result

The shoot delivered a library of cinematic drone and FPV footage showcasing Spectrum Center from perspectives rarely possible with conventional production equipment. By combining sweeping 6K imagery with immersive 4K FPV movement, the final footage gave the Hornets and their creative partners flexible visual assets for promotional content highlighting the newly renovated arena.

The collaborative on-site workflow also meant shots could be reviewed and refined during production, delivering footage that was already closely aligned with the creative team’s needs before leaving the arena.
